Apple Unleashed Event Expect New "M1X" chip Macbook Pros

"Apple has announced an event for October 18th, with a video containing the title “Unleashed.” If you’ve been watching the rumor mill, it won’t come as a surprise — the company still has a lot of products that are expected to come out this year but haven’t shown up in an Apple keynote.

Chief among those are new, more powerful MacBook Pros, which will follow the incredible Apple Silicon-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro that launched last November.

Mark Gurman reports that the laptops will be powered by new chips, which are expected to be more powerful variants of the M1 processor found in today’s computers. The “M1X” (or M2, or whatever name Apple actually goes with) is expected to have more high-performance cores than its predecessor (eight instead of four) and even offer a choice of 16 or 32 graphics cores (compared to the M1’s seven or eight)." - read more on The Verge here

Breaking Thoughts: Apple Silicon has been the most impressive aspect of Apple for the last decade. By designing their own hardware, software and processors Apple can deliver an unmatched experience. It has been doing this in their phone's for over 10 years, and last year it brought its ARM based SoCs to their Macs with the M1 chip.

Macs with the M1 chip (starting at $699) typically outperform systems with dedicated CPUs & GPUs that may cost as much as $2500. They outperform while using 70%-90% LESS electricity.

This year Apple is expected to use its own chips for all of its products, completely replacing Intel and AMD in its high end PCs. The outperformance of Apple sets the bar high for future AMD or Intel products, as they will need to innovate faster to keep up or face more large customers (certainly Google, potentially Microsoft and Amazon) transitioning to their own silicon.

Google Pixel Event, Release of Pixel 6 & showcase Google Silicon "Tensor" Chips

"Google’s decision to announce and thoroughly tease its new high-end flagship was revealing and confusing but, given all the leaks that followed, ultimately not that consequential.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro feature an all-new, in some cases, quite colorful design, with an in-display fingerprint sensor, Google’s new Tensor SoC, and the Titan M2 security chip. The standard Pixel 6 has a 90Hz 6.4-inch screen, while the Pro gets a 120Hz 6.7-inch, but the big difference might end up being the cameras. Both devices have new wide and ultrawide cameras, but the Pro comes with an additional 4x optical zoom periscope lens.

But now that company is planning on launching its new phones on October 19th, you might be wondering: what could Google have left to share? If leaks are any indication, quite a few interesting things." - read more on The Verge here

Breaking Thoughts: While the prospect of a flagship level Pixel is exciting (they have not launched a top tier phone since 2019), the real news here is that Google (like Apple) is now designing its own processors. The Google Tensor chip will perform inline with Qualcomm's (QCOM) Snapdragon 870/888 chips, but have significantly improved AI/Machine Learning capabilities as well as security and image processing.

This is rumored to be the start of Google making its own chips other consumer electronics as well, such as Pixelbooks, Chromebooks, Tablets and more. Like Apple, it will be utilizing traditional AMD/Intel/Nvidia chips less and less as it transitions to its own.
